you really need to start with the filters including the tank filter, carefully inspect the fuel lines especially the rubber hoses, also metal pipes at the tank, the fuel pump sucks the fuel from the tank and if there is a corroded metal pipe it can draw air in, if required for test purposes stick some feed and return hose in to a gallon container with fuel in and test it to see if it still
I replaced the fuel filter (non genuine Mahle filteroriginal part on lots of other vehicles and my preferred make of filter) when i took the van for a test run after the service the van stalled and the engine light came onthe code related to fuel system fault.
